About the Spcialty Physician Supply and Demand Tool Portal
We created this portal to provide visual and analytical access to the Specialty Physician Demand and Supply data created through research conducted by NCRHW and NCAHD. Within the portal, users will be able to view the FTE demand, supply and shortages for the following specialty physicians for 31 states[1]: Cardiology, Dermatology, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopeadic Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Otolaryngology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Urology.
We only included those states with at least 95% of their specialty information known and verified through our ESL QA/QC process. Users will be able to see the value in the county and use the transparency bar below each data layer to interactively view more than one data layer turned on.
[1] States Available: AL, AZ, AR, CT, FL, GA, ID, IA, KS, KY, LA, ME, MD, MA, MS, MO, NH, NC, ND, OH, OK, OR, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, VT, VA, WV, WI, WY
Data
*ESL - NCAHD collects state licensure data from each State's respective licensure boards. The data is then processed to include only unduplicated, in-state, actively licensed providers and then augmented with information from various sources ( e.g., Medical Schools, OPTI sites, Residency Programs).

NCAHD and NCRHW are not legally responsible for the accuracy or misuse of the data found within this portal.
Individual healthcare provider data is only available through the secure portal. Zip code, county, and state aggregates for providers are still available through the Aggregate Summary Tool located in 4. Select a Tool for Further Analysis.

How to use the SPSDT mapping portal to support GME development?
This video demonstrates how to use the SPSDT mapping portal's tools identify target areas in Kentucky for the development of a new Psychiatric residency program.
If you would like access to the individual provider level data, NCAHD has this information for every year since 2007 through 2018. Contact Ann K. Peton, apeton@vt.vcom.edu for more information.
The XYZ portal contains many different types of data. For example, we generated the physician data from NCAHD's Enhanced State Licensure Data dated 2016.
For more current data, please contact Ann K. Peton, apeton@vt.vcom.edu for more information.
At the current extent, individual features (e.g. providers, etc.) are not visible. You can use the aggregate summary tool to calculate data related to these layers, but you wil not see the individual features when you turn them on.
